Tin Soldier - The Small Faces

Starting with a very cool, opening piano rift, this song has a solid flow right from the get go. This song has a heavy feel that is never overbearing, but the mellow parts during the vocal parts is awesome and I love how into his music the guitarist is. To see such passion when they are playing makes me enjoy the song even more, and when he yells " cause I love you", it just marks such an incredible, powerful ending to a great song. This song was released in 67 and is a perfect example of why I love European 60's music.

Jesus Is Just Alright - The Byrds / The Doobie Brothers

Jesus Is Just Alright, although originally written by Arthur Reid Reynolds (apparently) was originally recorded by the Byrds for their 1969 album Ballad of Easy Rider, but did not prove to be a big hit. It was also rerecorded in 1970 by Underground Sunshine, and again failed to get notice. It wasn't until it was again released by the Doobie Brothers on their 1972 album Toulouse Street that the song got any notice. I prefer the Doobie Brothers version, but they Byrds is just as rocking and well worth the listen. Also, for any tv buffs,this song is covered on the short lived Freaks and Geeks, jammed out on a piano at the party, which is a pretty awesome rendition and definitely worth checking out.

The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down - The Band

Another Canadian entry, at least in part. This son was written by Canadian Robbie Robertson and first released by The Band in 1969. Telling the story of an American soldier in the aftermath of the civil war, this song is a timeless piece and a very solid musical recording, from the keys to robbies acoustic and especially to the lead vocal performance Levon Helm gives ( another vocalist drummer, imagine that). This was considered one of The Band's biggest hits, and for good reason, it is a great song to have on when you are just sitting around and wanting to listen to great music.
